Travel Tips

I did quite a lot of research before leaving on my trip. The internet is best for this. You can find many websites with valuable information but it’s all so spread out. This page is a good mix of important tips I found very useful and hopefully you will too. Below is a list with tips and important things you should read before taking the plunge.

Safety

  • Make several copies of your passport and keep them in different places in case of anything.
  • Get a credit card with travel points and put everything on there. It’s safer too. If you get robbed, the credit company will take care of any charges you didn’t make.
  • Make sure never to have a lot of money available at an ATM account just in case anyone decides to point a gun at you in a third world country and tell you to withdraw all your money. DO NOT make your saving account available from your ATM card. Just transfer money over once a month in case you need cash.
  • Pick pocketing is popular in Europe. Be careful, be street smart and do not have important things like your wallet and passport in your pockets and in easily accessible places like in a zipped up pocket on your backpack.

Backing up

Adrive.com gives you 50 free GB of space and it’s secure. Good for backing up your pictures and files. Dropbox.com is also pretty good but only gives 2GB free but paying for backing up service is worth it because if they steal your laptop you will lose all you files.

Visa’s

When you are budgeting for your trip, take into consideration the money you will spend on visa’s to enter different countries. A good website to see whether you need a visa is http://www.visahq.com. You can save money by going to government websites and buying it directly from them. For example, I only payed 20 dollars for my Australian visa at http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ as oppose to the $65 Visahq wanted to charge me. They charge you almost $50 for a service fee that you can do on your own in 1 minute.

Flight’s

Well, so how do you afford a trip around the world? Easy. Do your research and be smart. One company that really gave me a good deal for my world airline ticket is Airtreks . With other companies you are limited to the airlines you can fly on and they are mainly based on miles.
